ATT Veterans Serving Those Who've Served Our Country
Letter from our CEO

by Jeff Cole

Hello Veterans and Veterans Supporters. Another great month, with many activities at the local and National levels. I continue to be impressed and amazed at the energy and engagement from our membership during these covid times. Thank you for all you do and the support you give our AT&T Veterans ERG.

Happy 245th Birthday to all our Navy active, reserve, and veterans! We thank you for your service and contributions to our country and appreciate your families for the support they provided to enable you to serve!

At the National level, we supported a Multi-EG Suicide Awareness webcast, that was well attended, and helped further awareness of suicide within multiple communities, to include Veterans, LGBTQ+, the disabled, and those impacted with mental health challenges. Secondly, we hosted our second Getting Left of Impact series webcast / panel, hosted by Mike Wittrock, and featuring our a key partner of ours, The Mission Continues. There was great information and storytelling on the event, and we will be publishing the link to the recorded version separately this week. And finally, we hosted a Veterans benefits webcast with representatives from Military One Source and our internal AT&T HR team, to provided great information and insights on benefits available to military veterans.

The virtual EG conference is coming up this month, and is open to all. The link is available for sign up further below in this newsletter. Please join and engage in this new concept for the EG Conference and share your experience with us afterwards.

October has a “National Day of the Deployed” and I would encourage you to take a moment to recognize those serving abroad on our behalf, and consider sending a thank you note or care package through and organization, agency, or other service that connects with our overseas military.

I hope to see you at the “virtual EG Conference”, and look forward to continued growth in our energy and support to veterans and their families.

Financial Updates - CFO

by Robert Cardarelli

Howdy to all our AT&T Veteran members,

My hope is that you and your chapter are still engaged in serving your local military community even as the saga of Covid persists. That being the case, the thought of conducting a virtual 5k as fundraiser comes to mind. Without the need of securing a location, obtaining permits, acquiring insurance, funding a live event which can range anywhere from $2,500 to $25,000, along with a laundry list of other things, a virtual 5k might be the fundraising solution that you find both easy to organize and profitable to hold.
Space is limited so without going into detail here are some steps you’ll need to consider:

• How do you want to raise funds, e.g. charge an entry fee or ask for donations?
• Participant registration, do you want or need it, if so, how will you accomplish?
• Event promotion through email, fliers, or social media
• Race Day Shirts, who is going to design it, who will get one and how?
• Holding the 5k Walk/Race
• Lastly, tell the world about your event by sharing video, photos and hashtags, through social media sites like Twitter, Facebook or Instagram.
I encourage you to do your own research, gather the necessary details, formulate a plan and hold a virtual 5k so you can continue, “to serve those who have served our country.”

As always, my finance team and I are ready to serve your chapter’s financial needs

Resource Corner - CRO

by Kris Adams

As mentioned in our March Newsletter, we are creating a Veterans Support Portal that will be a cross between LinkedIn, tSpace and a Google Earth-like platform. The goal of this platform is for Veterans (within AT&T) to connect – generating conversations, comradery, support, mentorship, etc.

We are excited with the prototype that has been provided to us, and we are ready to move forward with development!

We are looking to recruit 4 part time developers who are willing to contribute at least 4 hours a week to develop the new support platform for the AT&T Veterans EG. It is important to note that this is a side project to be on parallel with a main assignment/project.

Of the 4 developers, we are looking for 1-2 experienced full-stack developers, ideally who have background knowledge in the google maps API or have the bandwidth and determination to learn. Currently, the web framework has not been chosen, so these full-stack developers will have flexibility in a framework of their choosing.

For the remaining developers we are looking for experience in rest service technology (Java Spring, Node JS, etc.) to help send/receive data from the platform.

Competencies
• Software development life cycle
• Programming
• User experience design
• The web framework (React, Angular, etc.)

Time, Location and Restrictions
• 4 hours per week
• Minimum 6 months
• Virtual opportunity
