Hello Veterans and Veterans Supporters. Welcome to August and many new opportunities, events, and activities on the horizon.

Tim Suwandhaputra and team conducted another webcast session this past month on the topic: AT&T Veterans – Mental Health Programs and Benefits. The meeting was recorded, and if unable to participate in the actual session, please take a listen here for the very relevant and important information passed along. And use access passcode: Veteran*1

Happy Birthday to the Coast Guard! The U.S. Coast Guard celebrates its 231st birthday this month. The Coast Guard traces its founding to Aug. 4, 1790, when the first Congress authorized the construction of 10 vessels to enforce tariff and trade laws, prevent smuggling, and protect the collection of federal revenue. Happy Birthday to those who have served and are serving in our U.S. Coast Guard!

There are planning activities getting started for the annual EG Conference, and I hope you will be able to be a virtual participant, and possibly join in on the planning and activities that come along with this wonderful teaming event every year. Your participation would be appreciated!

One of the recent company activities is the partial divestiture of DIRECTV from AT&T. DIRECTV is now a standalone company with majority ownership / stake by AT&T. This means effective 8/1/2021, AT&T employees transitioning to DIRECTV will become associate membership status until DIRECTV stands up their ERG programs, or until DE&I ends this transitory exception for the DIRECTV separation. The AT&T Veterans ERG by-laws, as do most other EG by-laws, have clauses that stipulate associate members cannot hold National or Chapter Board positions.

As I am an affected employee as part of the DIRECTV separation, I will be transitioning the CEO / President role to the newly elected CEO / President, David Rhoads this week. The effective date will be 8/1/2021, but we will partner together to ensure a seamless transition over whatever amount of time is needed. Previous Presidents are always available to those currently serving.

I am honored to have served with and lead such an exceptional employee group as our AT&T Veterans ERG as your CEO / President. And I would like to thank my fellow executive board and National leaders for the support, creativity and commitment they have brought to leading AT&T Veterans. Thank you members, both veteran and veteran supporter, for your passion, engagement, and commitment to give back which is so inspiring to be a part of and to observe in your every day veteran community support. I wish you all the best, and will continue to be engaged through cross-company activities and partnering, and hope our paths cross again as we strive together to give our at-risk veteran community the much needed outreach and engagement they have earned.

A last thought, as I was looking at August Awareness Days, I came across National  Never Give Up Day, which is on 8/18. It is a day to think about cultivating a mindset of determination, which helps us to get through all of the difficult challenges that life throws our way. Over the events of the last year, and those that may still come our way, I want to encourage everyone to take a look at some of the mindsets, and see how you can adopt for yourself or instill in others. Hang in there!

Thank you again for all you do, and reach out to me directly if I can be of any assistance.
